Dissonant

Dissonant

I’ve been down
to a
lonely dollar…
I’ve been down
to my only friend.

I’ve been bound
to the streets, I holler
trying to make a cent.

I wish I could sing well
I wish that my voice
wasn’t out of tune.
Know that I mean well,
and know that it’s all that
I can do.

Now I could ask
for a million quarters.
I could ask
for a single dime.
I could mask all my tears
with water,
but that still
wouldn’t make ‘em mine.

I wish I could sing well.
I wish that my voice
could bring me fame.
I wish I could sing well.
I wish all the world
knew my name.

All I’d want
is food and water…
All I’d want’s
for you to dance…
All I’d want’s
another dollar
so I
could have a chance.

Now I could pray
to be forgiven,
but it’s I
who must forgive.
If I had a voice
like heaven,
it wouldn’t
be so hard
to live.

I only wish I could sing well,
although my voice
is out of tune.
I know I don’t sing well,
but it’s not my choice
to sing for you…

I wish I could sing well
I wish I could sing well
If I could just sing well…
I swear I’d still sing this song to you.
